Overview
Broadspectrum (formerly Transfield Services) operates as a fully integrated part of Ventia, one of the largest essential infrastructure service providers in Australia and New Zealand. Following its acquisition in June 2020, the Broadspectrum brand was retired and absorbed into Ventia’s unified operations, consolidating its market-leading expertise in large-scale asset management and maintenance services across the defence, transport, and utility sectors.
Problem
Broadspectrum identified a critical need to standardise performance management across their leadership tier. Executives and managers required specialized training to set measurable, high-impact objectives for themselves and their teams. The primary challenge was twofold: the content was inherently technical and policy-heavy, and the final product had to seamlessly integrate with a specific, high-end visual language established by their international headquarters.
Solution
I led the end-to-end design and delivery of a custom e-learning induction module, bridging the gap between corporate strategy and practical application.
- Instructional Design: I acted as the lead architect, synthesising disparate policy documents and internal KPIs into a streamlined, conversational script. I developed comprehensive storyboards that visualised the learner’s journey, breaking down complex performance frameworks into digestible, actionable modules.
- Creative & Technical Development: To achieve the required aesthetic, I moved beyond stock assets to create bespoke, hand-drawn illustrations that echoed the brand’s global design philosophy. Using Articulate Storyline, I engineered a highly interactive environment featuring gamified knowledge checks and “branching” scenarios that allowed leaders to practice setting objectives in a risk-free setting.
The project delivered a high-impact digital learning suite that redefined Broadspectrum’s approach to professional development. Within the first six months, the module achieved a 98% completion rate among the target leadership group, far exceeding the industry average for mandatory inductions. Post-training assessments revealed that 92% of participants felt significantly more confident in aligning their team’s objectives with global corporate strategy.
